Green House Development Workshop
The two-day Green House Workshop is the first step in bringing Green House homes to your community.
The first day of the workshop is hosted by an operating Green House organization, at no cost to the attendee. The workshop, which begins at 10 am and concludes at 4 pm, takes participants through an overview of the Green House model and covers the following elements:
- The Green House Project (GHP) values and essential practices and an exploration of how the model is reflected in various communities.
- The growing evidence base, which shows positive financial, clinical, and quality of life outcomes.
- Conversations with leadership and staff from an operating Green House organization about their experiences.
- A tour of a Green House.
- The latest from The Green House Project as a national initiative, including innovative tools and resources, policy impact, and growing momentum across the country.
Day 1 is for those interested in learning more about the model and considering the next step in bringing one to their communities.
The second day of the workshop is $495 for the first person from an organization and $375 for each subsequent individual from the same organization. This day takes a much deeper dive into the key factors that affect the development, financial viability, and ROI of Green House homes. It is highly recommended for the following stakeholders who are ready to take the next steps toward developing the Green House model:

Senior housing experts Scott Pfeifer, principal, RDG Planning and Design; John Ponthie, founder and managing director, Southern Administrative Services; Terri Metzker, principal, Chi Partners; and Susan Ryan, senior director of The Green House Project, will lead you through essential components to becoming a Green House adopter:
- Determining optimal sizing for a project;
- Site selection considerations;
- Design tips to create small and real homes;
- Working with state agencies on CON and licensing approvals;
- How to streamline the construction process; and
- Green House Project management expertise
Also on tap for the second day are practical tips, case studies, and lessons learned from both for-profit and non-profit organizations around the development of Green House homes.
For those interested in attending Day 2 of the workshop, it is highly recommended to have previously attended an overview workshop (such as Day 1).
The Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM) is the proposed new Medicare payment rule for skilled nursing homes. PDPM is intended to replace the current RUG-IV system with a completely new way of calculating reimbursement. Under PDPM, therapy minutes are removed as the basis for payment in favor of resident classifications and anticipated resource needs during the course of an elder's stay.
